Cheerleading

QM Sapphires Cheerleaders are a team of students who strive to achieve the highest level possible through being professional, yet keeping the fun in what we do.

After the success of the last year where we competed nationally coming away with 1st Place at the Future Cheer Championships in April 2010 and also winning the Chancellors Cup for The Students’ Union. We are hoping to expand our squad and compete at a higher level with even more complex routines.

We train twice a week, concentrating on the elements of stunting, dance and cheer. Training involves stunt practice, dance practice and fitness training preparing for the competitions, usually held in February/March/April. To keep up morale we enjoy bonding as a team by having wild nights out on the town, or chilled nights in with a movie.

We perform around the university trying to raise money before we take to the stage at the national championships. In order to compete at these competitions we are constantly holding fundraising events in and around the university. Previous fundraisers include: numerous bake sales; themed parties, and also holding events purely to show our routines and showcase the talents of the squad before we head to the competitions.

Our talented group of cheerleaders have had great success in all their endeavours. Our achievements:

• Scotdance National Championships 09, Dundee
  
• Scotcheer National Cheerleading Championships 08, Dundee

Our aims:

To promote teamwork and Spirit
To develop self belief and confidence
To develop lasting friendships
To provide a positive, safe environment to master skills
To produce outstanding, dedicated cheerleaders & Dancers
To promote the sport of Cheerleading in the UK and around the university
