Men’s Rugby

Famous for being the most handsome Rugby team in the Lothians.
The Men’s Rugby team has long been the refuge of the hard working student. Training and games are specifically designed to be manageable whilst excelling in the academic field also, after all, we are students first and foremost.
We have all arrived in the desolate landscape that the campus provides in Musselburgh, where such things as vegetation and primary colours don’t exist. Friends are made quickly, those made within the Rugby team last throughout your time here, I can surely testify to this. We have long endeavoured to make Rugby the focus of our Rugby team, rather than humiliating traditions and copious amounts of alcohol. However, even with the best wishes, I cannot promise that either will not feature.
Playing for QM has been a unique experience for me. Initially frustrating when wins were sparse, I actually felt the camaraderie develop over this first year, witnessing traditional ethics of playing hard mattering more than the outcome, was touching. Now however, we have had the fortune of a further brace of players and hope to continue an unbeaten run. Our closest match last season was 45 – 19, thus earning the first promotion in QM Rugby history. With the players that I know are available, combined, hopefully, with new first years I am confident in our ability to dominate this league.
Anyone is welcome to join our club, irrespective of race, creed or even any previous Rugby ability/experience. Arriving at University seems specifically designed to be as daunting and scary as possible, however I do urge you to join one of the teams…..especially Rugby.
Looking forward to meeting you all,
Jamie Wilson – final year Physiotherapy + Captain.
