
The role
Class Reps act as official representatives for the class and are the first point of contact for any course issue. Class Reps have a positive role to play in enabling communication and constructive change within courses by:
- Being available to members of the class to receive students’ views regularly
- Raising issues with the Programme Leader as and when they occur
- Participating in Student Staff Consultative Committees and Programme Committees
- Giving feedback to their class on progress, changes and decisions relating to issues raised by students
- Raising persistent issues that remain unsolved with the Students’ Union
The number of hours will vary over the year. You should normally expect to spend 1-2 hours per week carrying out your role.

What’s next?
You don’t need previous experience to be Class Rep. If you are looking for a challenge and want to improve the student voice at QMU, then speak to your Programme Leader. Elections normally take place in the first few weeks of Semester 1.
You will be offered an initial training session and on going support to help you carry out your role.

Being a Class Rep is more than just representing your class, you can also join the Student Parliament of the Students’ Union (www.qmusu.org.uk), be a student reviewer within the Quality Enhancement Unit (www.qmu.ac.uk/quality/) or join Sparqs as an Associate Trainer (www.sparqs.ac.uk)
Many people have found being an active Class Rep enjoyable, fulfilling and productive and with enthusiasm and energy you will be able to achieve a lot.
