Maggie’s

Maggie’s Bar is your new home.  Think of it as your living room while you are on campus. Between lectures, after lectures and into the wee small hours, Maggie’s is THE HUB of campus life.

The bar opens at 11am and provides a full menu of main meals, healthy options, the opportunity to customise your order and of course the QMU students’ favourite; curly fries! There is also an extensive drinks menu ranging from draught beer, bottled beer, wines and a multitude of spirits as well as several options of soft drink. All our prices are very affordable because we know how skint you are!

We were recently awarded the Best Bar None, Most Improved Students’ Union in the UK Award for our attitude and service towards responsible drinking practises at the NUS National Awards, so you can rest assured that we take your safety and well being very seriously.

Maggie’s Bar is split up into three distinct areas:

The Hatch Room: a games room with American pool tables, arcade machines, an internet café, juke box and comfy pod seats for you to socialise and get to know one another.

The Café Space: with leather sofas, breakfast bar seating, board games and newspapers to chill and relax with a barista served latte, cappuccino or other hot drink.

The Main Bar: During the day this is the place to dine with friends, whether you are having a tasty Panini or sampling our much loved fish and chips.

All our food is made to order and delivered to your table so you know that it is fresh and you are being treated like the valued customer that you are. At night this space becomes the dance floor, the live music venue, the live sports hub or the cinema. With a MASSIVE ten-foot by ten-foot projector screen, it’s the only place to watch the big match or snuggle up in your PJs for one of our movie nights. There’s also a classic style British pool table in this space in case someone is hogging the ones in The Hatch!

The other great thing about Maggie’s is that it belongs to you. You can hold events in it, you can choose the music being played (through an iphone app that connects directly to our digital system) and you can leave comments in our feedback box which we take very seriously. The bar and catering staff are all students so they can help you get to know the place better, give you handy hints and tips on what it’s like to be a student at QMU and also order you a taxi home if you don’t live on campus.

Remember, the bar is what you make it. If you want to hold an event, be it a birthday party, pyjama party, football night or even a sumo wrestle, we can help you do that because it’s your space. All you have to do is speak to one of the Bar Managers and they’ll take you through the process. Think of us as your own private members club. This year could be huge but it’s up to you to make it huge!

Our regular events include, the Live Lounge showcasing the best local and up and coming talent, comedy nights and open mic nights including some very talented QMU students as well as our annual big events; Halloween, The Snow Ball, Paddy’s Day, World in Union International Night and The Big Bang… ask anyone about these events as they CANNOT be missed!
