
The Students' Union is awarded 2nd place in the Participation Category at the 2008 NUS Awards
It is with great pleasure that we inform you of this wonderful achievement.
The NUS Participation Award is awarded in recognition of the achievement of a students’ union who has significantly increased participation levels of student members. The criteria focussed on the key areas of; election turnout, representation, campaigning, clubs and societies, course representatives and involvement in decision making.
The nominated Unions were; Kent Union, the Liverpool Guild of Students, University of Strathclyde Students' Union, the University of Sheffield Union of Students, De Montford University Students' Union, University of Nottingham Students' Union, Exeter Students' Guild, University of York Students' Union, University of the West of England Students' Union, Essex Students' Union and LSE Students' Union.
The three shortlisted Students' Unions were: Kent Union, University of Nottingham Students' Union and The Students' Union Queen Margaret University Edinburgh.
The Students' Union here at QMU were awarded 2nd place, with the University of Nottingham Students' Union the winners.
We are extremely proud of this achievement, which celebrates the work that has been done by the Executive Committee and Union Staff over the academic year 2007-2008. The Students' Union prides itself on developing greater engagement with its members through the employment of professional staff, commitment to training and resources and by listening to its' members and their needs.
The new Executive Committee see this recognition as a building block and will endeavour to increase participation over this coming academic year.
